Bereavement Support Print

hands.jpgThe Bereavement Support Group has been established to provide support and, if required, counselling following the death of a close family member. It will normally make contact four to six weeks after the bereavement. This confidential service is offered to non-members (regardless of religion) as well as to members of MNS. Although it works within the Synagogue, it also accepts referrals from GPs, Northwick Park Hospital and St. Luke's Hospice.

The Bereavement Support Group is a team of trained volunteer bereavement vsitors under professional supervision. Each visitor undergoes initial training, and then further training at least twice a year.  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it for further information.

Befrienders Print

shopping.jpgBefrienders at MNS aims to be exactly that. We can visit you or a sick relative in hospital. If you are housebound and would welcome someone dropping in for a chat or doing some shopping, we can help. We even have a volunteer who can do a bit of DIY for you. If you would like to be a Befriender” or are able to bake a cake, make a quiche or a container of soup to be stored in the Synagogue freezer and offered  to those who need a hand with some cooking, it would be greatly appreciated.

Befrienders at MNS will be glad to either lend you a helping hand or to welcome you to our band of helpers. This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it for further information.

Small enough to fit into a purse or a wallet, one side of the card has contact details at the Synagogue whilst the other side has room to write the contact details of a relative, friend or doctor.

Cards can be obtained from the Synagogue office in person, or by sending a s.a.e. to Emergency & Assistence Cards, Middlesex New Synagogue, 39 Bessborough Road, Harrow, Middlesex, HA1 3BS.

Employment - Can We Help? Print

organiser.jpgRabbi Middleton’s article 'Beating The Recession Blues' drew attention to the effects of the recession on the community in terms of unemployment and the need for all of us to provide what help we can to support those who are affected.

During the last recession, MNS and Rabbi Franses were able to help many members through difficult times.  Let’s do it again this time. If you have been made redundant or are under the threat of losing your job, contact Jeanette and David Leibling or  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  in complete confidence. The sooner we know, the quicker we can provide help.

Telenet Print

telephone.jpgOur Telenet system provides telephone contact with our members, enabling us to keep in touch with them on a regular basis, particularly around the Jewish festivals. Besides providing information about synagogue activities, Telenet also keeps the Synagogue informed about news from our members.

We are always looking for more people to make six 'phone calls twice a year so that eventually every member will be 'phoned. The 'phoners will receive proper guidelines and we intend, very soon, to implement a series of workshops to ensure that all 'phoners are fully aware of what is expected of them, for example how to deal with information gleaned from members, confidentiality, boundaries and hopes for the future.
