A Virtual Tour Print

frontdoor.jpgBuilt on the site of the former Harrow College for Girls in Bessborough Road, the Synagogue building, designed by Tiko Alalouff, was opened in 1977.

Over the porch way entrance, visitors are greeted by the inscription: Wisdom hath builded her house. These words are taken from the Book of Proverbs, the full quotation being: Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars.

Inside

Just inside the porch is a brass plaque commemorating the opening of the current building. The inscription reads: Rededication 16 January 1977. This tablet was unveiled by Daphne, wife of the late Gorden Benjamin, the first Chairman of the Synagogue (1959-63). The glory of this latter house shall be greater than that of the first, says the Lord. ~Haggai ch2 v9.
